She Was Still a Child, Yet Life Had Already Made Her a Provider

Some encounters stay with you long after you leave.

Some faces follow you home in your prayers.

Some stories quietly change how you see the world.

This is one of those stories.

The Day We Met Her

We met her during one of our community outreach visits.

She stood quietly at the edge of a small gathering, holding her baby close to her chest. She looked tired, the kind of tired that comes from carrying responsibilities no young person should carry alone.

She was only 17 years old, already a mother, already the one her family depended on for survival.

Her mother was gone.

Her father was elderly and weak.

Her younger siblings depended on her.

And the man who should have stood beside her had disappeared from her life.

At an age when many girls are still in school, still laughing with friends, still dreaming about what their future might become,  she was thinking about food, survival, and how to keep her baby alive.

When Survival Becomes Daily Prayer

She had no job.

No savings.

No support system.

No safety net.

Only a baby in her arms.

And a family looking to her for help.

There was no bitterness in her voice. Only quiet worry.

And something else, a determination to keep going, no matter how hard life becomes.

It was clear to us: temporary food support would not change her future.

She needed something more powerful.

She needed a way to stand.

She needed dignity.

She needed a chance.

The Small Beginning We Could Offer

With the little resources we had, we did what we could.

We helped her start very small —

A basket of fresh tomatoes.

Some pepper.

Some onions.

It was not much.

But to her, it meant everything.

It meant she could try.

It meant she could earn something.

It meant she could feed her baby — even if only little by little.

She received it with gratitude and determination.

She began selling.

She worked hard.

She showed up every day.

But deep down, we knew this was only the beginning.

Because she is not only feeding herself.

She is feeding a child.

Helping her younger siblings.

Supporting an elderly father who cannot work.

The weight she carries is heavier than what this small beginning can sustain.

And that is why she still needs help.

Why Stories Like Hers Matter

There are many young mothers like her.

Invisible.

Struggling quietly.

Carrying families on fragile shoulders.

Trying to survive without opportunity.

When we help a young mother stand, we are not helping one person.

We are protecting a child.

We are strengthening a family.

We are stopping poverty from swallowing another generation.

Dignity changes lives.

Opportunity changes futures.

Compassion changes stories.

Why We Continue This Work

At Divine Presence Family Support Centre, we believe:

Every life matters.

Every mother deserves dignity.

Every child deserves a future.

We do not always have much.

But we use what we have, and trust God for the rest.

Because even a small act of love can become someone’s lifeline.

Today, we are asking you to look beyond numbers — and see a life.

She is working.

She is trying.

She is fighting quietly for her child and her family.

But she cannot carry this burden alone.

Your support can help:

• Expand her small business

• Provide stable income for her family

• Feed a growing child

• Give dignity and stability to a fragile household

Sometimes, one act of kindness changes the direction of an entire family’s future.
